Turning Cooler This Weekend
Gorgeous late-winter weather has been upon us this week, but changes will set in right when the new season arrives. Saturday marks the start of spring, with the vernal equinox occuring at 1:35AM on the 20th.
Fair skies will persist tonight with lows dropping to near 50. Friday will start bright but clouds will thicken as the day progresses. An approaching upper-level trough will bring scattered shower starting late Friday night. Expect a 30% chance for rain in Saturday's forecast as the cold front moves through.
This front will have gusty north winds associated with it, and also some noticeably colder air. A freeze is possible in the Hill Country by Sunday morning; lows will run in the upper 30s in the Austin metro area.
Cooler than average temperatures will persist on Sunday as the skies clear out. Highs will only run in the upper 50s at best. Dry weather should last into the middle part of the upcoming work week; check in with the 8-day forecast for details.

The wildflowers are in bloom and the bluebonnets are growing all over the area. We would like for you to take pictures of the wildflowers and send them to us. Send them to e-mail attachments to photos@news8austin.com, then watch Weather on the Eights for them to air every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We'll be awarding prizes based on these guidelines: * best photo of bluebonnets growing in the most unlikely spot * photo of the biggest field of bluebonnets
Please remember to include your name and the location of the wildflowers you shot.
Flood Safety Awareness Week continues in Texas. It's a good idea to refresh yourself on safety tips and prepare when floods affect your area. Remember, TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN.
